04 · Made here

Made here. Made to be kept.

The Fall River Knitting Mill has been making sweaters in southeastern Massachusetts for over a century, and Whalerknits still designs, knits, cuts and sews every one there. Whalerknits brings a life spent making knitwear. Life Is Golden brings the company we keep. This sweater is where those stories meet.

SoftCotton, not wool. No itch at the neck, and it goes in the machine.
Yours for yearsMade at a weight, and in a place, meant for years of wear. Wash it, live in it, hand it down.
  1. 1838

The Merrow family begin making textiles in America. Whalerknits is owned and operated by that family today.

  2. 1911

Frank and Flora Reitzas, immigrants from Minsk, start a knitting company in New York with a single machine, later moving it to Fall River. In the maker's words, the mill "never closed. It never moved offshore."

  3. 1975

Whalerknits is founded, named for the whaling towns of coastal Massachusetts.

  4. 2026

The Golden Wellfleet. Our first release together: the Wellfleet rollneck in Natural and Navy. A golden on the chest, a golden thread inside, and a label numbered by hand.

Renderings — real photographs come with the first sample

Rendering: a couple walking a harbor boardwalk at golden hour, a golden retriever trotting ahead

Golden hour, the long way home. Navy on him, Natural on her, and the one who always walks ahead.

Rendering: a woman in the navy crew on a sailboat, a golden asleep on her lap

At anchor. Nowhere to be. A head in your lap.

Rendering: the small embroidered golden on the navy crew

Close. The mark, where a hand goes.

Rendering: a woman laughing on a working dock with an enamel mug, a golden sitting beside her

Coffee on the dock. Lobster traps, a good joke, a dog who thinks it was about him.

Rendering: a man on a tailgate above a beach, a golden asleep on a blanket behind him

Tailgate, low sun. The dog's asleep before you've poured the thermos.

Rendering: a woman on a dock edge in the cream crew, a golden looking up at her

The look. You know the one.

Rendering: a couple by a beach fire at dusk, a golden settled between them

Some things become part of the family. A sweater that lives by the door and comes along.

Is this a preorder?
No. The release list is free. You'll pay only if you choose to buy after your invitation arrives, when the sweater is ready to ship.
How many will you make?
We're planning the first production run now. Interest, color and size preferences will help shape the final quantities. We'll confirm the release details before anyone buys.
Does joining reserve a sweater or a number?
Joining gives you a place on the invitation list, not a product reservation. Colors and sizes depend on availability. Garment numbers are assigned during finishing and cannot be selected.
